For our Season 1 finale, we bring you a special with Government Communications specialist David Pembroke, who also happens to be known to many in Rugby as ‘Pemby’, the communications advisor and most trusted confidant to England Coach Eddie Jones.
David has had a riveting career as a broadcaster, marketer, director of communications and now agency CEO. For 25 years, he has led, Contentgroup, one of Australia’s top communications agencies specialising in government and public sector communications but with a range of corporate clients.
Before setting up the Contentgroup, David was a journalist with ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) and the Communications Director of Australian Rugby Union. He served as a communications advisor to the Australian Olympic Committee and served as an advisor to The Brumbies for several years.
This is a conversation about more than sport or government communications. It is one about career longevity, the future of the communications professional, being a trusted advisor, failure, decision-making, and storytelling.
In 2020, David set up the GovComms Institute and ran the inaugural GovComms Festival, a 24-hour communications conference with 170 speakers delivering over 100 hours of content to 1,569 attendees from 17 countries.

Brain Fog and Brand Banter
Tuesday Apr 27, 2021
Tuesday Apr 27, 2021
In this episode, we talk about brain fog and why it’s such a problem. Honestly, we’re feeling it and thought it was important to talk about it. As PR, Communications and marketing pros, we need to be switched on, but we’re also living through a pandemic that is affecting our minds and memory.
For our 5 Minutes, we have a chat about brand banter (or “brandter”). In recent weeks, Aldi and M&S have had an interesting exchange on Twitter. But aren’t the first. We’ve seen brands across every sector do it and about several issues. Sometimes, the jovial tone that brands use does cross the line, and there are dangers.
